Grants

Beyond aligning with the programme outcome including positive changes in attitudes towards ending FGM/C) and key principles such as safeguarding, grantee partners have the flexibility to determine the best strategies and activities through which they will contribute toward this outcome, subject to grant terms and conditions. It is important to note that grantee partners’ activities are likely to cover a range of FGM/C prevention, protection, integration, communications, and/or advocacy initiatives aligned with the overall programme outcome.

Small grants <£2,000

The small grants are awarded directly to small/new organisations for a period between six (6) months to one year.  These grants are intended for partners who may never have received formal grant funding in the past or have only managed very small grants.

Small grants are suitable for groups comprised of volunteers, youth groups, some survivor-led groups, and/or groups in more remote areas where the end FGM/C movement is less developed.

Grantee partners in this category may progress to larger grants over time, as the grants team support them to strengthen their financial management skills and experience, develop policies, and gain experience in project implementation.

Medium grants <£20,000

These grants are intended for more established organisations at the grassroots level for up to one (1) year. The organisations applying for this category must have certain key policies in place and be able to provide recent financial records.

These organisations are likely to be established Community-Based Organisations (CBOs) or Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) with some track record in managing grants and carrying out end FGM/C initiatives. The grants will support grantee partners’ training and capacity building from both the programme consortium and the local anchor partner, as well as resource them to carry out prevention, protection, communications, and/or advocacy initiatives aligned with the programme outcome and principles.

Anchor grants <£100,000

These grants are intended for larger, well-established organisations to support small- and medium-grants partners in their area for a period of up to one year. There is likely to be one such grant awarded in each sub-national area.

These grantee partners will:

  1. Provide capacity building according to their specific strengths and grantee partner needs to small and medium grantee partners
  2. Provide hands-on support such as financial management and, reporting to small grants partners
  3. Helping to capture stories of change and learning from small and medium grantee partners
  4. Convene grantee partners for collective strategizing, peer-to-peer learning opportunities, and brokering relationships with duty bearers among other opportunities
  5. Support small grants partners with financing activities, e.g. paying for consultants
  6. In addition, they may also build into their grant proposals/budgets direct implementation of end FGM/C prevention, protection, communications, and/or advocacy initiatives.
