Strategic Media and Communications

The Strategic Media and Communications workstream is within the broader Communications, Advocacy, and Movement Building (CAMB) team. The Communications team with support of all consortium partners focuses on driver one (1) The storytelling nerve centre and driver three (3) Voices and learnings amplified.

Under these two drivers, the Strategic Media and Communications team is tasked with:

  • POSITIVELY profiling the programme to appeal to the hearts and minds of TGG-ALM audiences to inspire action and attitude change in ending FGM/C and promote gender equality
  • ENGAGING consortium partners to lead and support girls, women, and community members to tell their stories, and act as a catalyst to bring about POSITIVE CHANGE
  • Taking the lead as well as support in STRENGTHENING the capacity of grantee partners to tell their stories
  • POSITIVE media engagements and ensuring that the work of the programme is communicated positively to the masses
  • The work stream is also INTEGRAL in supporting the brand vision and is a brand CUSTODIAN

Survivor-centered Approach: This workstream places survivors of FGM/C at the forefront. By centering their voices and stories, we recognize their resilience, courage, and expertise in driving change within their communities and beyond.

  • Storytelling: Through compelling storytelling, we amplify the experiences, challenges, and triumphs of survivors. This enables us to build empathy, challenge misconceptions, and foster support for ending FGM/C.
  • Reframing the language and narrative on FGM/C: By using gender transformative communication tools and language, we recognise that FGM/C is a human right abuse, a form of child abuse and not a cultural practice.
  • Digital Platforms: We utilize digital presence to share information, advocate for an end to FGM/C and share programme stories.
  • Mainstream media: We engage with local, national and international media to amplify voices of women, girls and community members as well what we are learning as a programme.
  • Collaboration and Partnerships: We collaborate with survivors, and like-minded organisations, to run joint campaigns to amplify the voices of survivors and those at risk of FGM/C as well as share lessons learned within the programme
